Recognising human capital as its most valuable resource, Sembcorp Marine aims to create a workplace culture in which employees feel valued, respected, empowered and inspired.
In addition to comprehensive retention and development programmes, the Group actively inculcates a sense of belonging and enhances the well-being among its employees through workplace health promotion, staff communication and engagement activities.
Human Capital Strategy and Policies
Sembcorp Marine has in place a robust human resource strategy, aligned to its business objectives and strategic thrusts. To enable the Group to grow in the global marketplace, a work environment which provides fair employment practices and equal opportunities is vital to our business success. We are also committed to embracing diversity and nurturing the full potential of our over 10,000 employees.
Developing Human Capital
To support its growth, Sembcorp Marine recruits talents through a number of channels including scholarships, internships and job fairs. The Group nurtures the technical and functional skills of employees through competency-based training, leadership development programmes, mentoring and job rotation. We also encourage open communication and employee engagement to reach out to staff across the Group through dialogue sessions, employee surveys as well as company-wide celebrations, festivities and programmes.
Promoting Total Wellness
Catering to the overall well-being of its employees, the Group offers a wide range of health and wellness programmes ranging from talks and workshops to sports and recreational activities. On top of the complimentary annual health screenings, the yards also partner with public health care providers such as Alexandra Health to offer managed healthcare for diabetes and faster treatments via direct referrals for specialist treatments and tele-consultations.
In recognition of its efforts in promoting workplace health, Sembcorp Marine was conferred the prestigious Work-Life Excellence Award in 2010 by Singapore’s Tripartite Committee on Work-Life Strategy.
Labour and Union Relations
Strengthening ties with the Unions is an important part of creating a harmonious work environment. To reinforce tripartite synergy and cohesiveness, we actively engage the Unions in matters concerning our employees such as remuneration, worker safety & welfare, and skills upgrading.
